Color on my Mind

Violet, very random, and may have started with my quest to find a leotard of this color that fits my daughter for this year’s ballet.  But really, it’s here!  Is it a flattering color?  I’m not sure, color isn’t my thing.  I know many people really go by ‘their colors’ but I tend to just turn towards what I like.

I do think to start with a base- knowing what colors work for you makes it easier to build a capsule wardrobe with colors that you are happy with and that suits you.

Experimenting, while keeping one rule of thumb- if you like it wear it.  Which may lead to some interesting color combos.  However, fashion is supposed to be fun.

So today I’m going for Violet.

So many fun pieces out there!

This maxi dress by Ganni,  it also comes in a blouse.  Paired with my go to leather jacket, really loving loving a biker jacket over maxi dresses and my fav sneakers- easy!

Tied up with the Corset Blouse

Once in awhile a little micro trend comes along that gives your wardrobe staples an update.  So many SS17 runway collections celebrated the mis-section and it’s continuing for Autumn-Winter.

Break in, one of my favorite pieces incorporating this new styling trend from Self-Portrait.  Canvas with chic black piping fitting for a monochrome transitional solution which will elevate your denim look.

Several social media style setters have been wearing wide waste belts and laced bodies over their shirts and dresses.

Well, they were good enough for the victorians.

Now the joy of this Self-Portrait piece is that

tit does all the work for you.  Just button, lace, and go and you’ve moved ahead on the new season already.

The alluring thing about this trend, is that it is very flattering on most body shapes.  Making your waist look tiny, creating a feminine silhouette leaving you with a curvy, sexy shape.

Back the corset shirt with jeans or skirts.  Tuck them in or wear it out, the choice is yours.  There’s no reason why you can’t take your coolness to the office or take your smart shirt out for drinks.  Over the coming weeks you’ll notice all sorts of built in corsets.

I’ve paired mine with the jeans I wear everyday and new favorite slides, keeping it September friendly.  Later I’ll wear it with velvet.

So excuse me while I put on my corset top and get wasted.

A monochrome edit that crosses all budgets along with a token stripe and check piece.

  1.  Prince of Wales check belt  2.  Black corset mini skirt 3.  White Topshop sweatshirt 4. Anna October blouse 5. Moto belt 6. Striped poplin blouse  7. High wasted black corset jean 8.  White Maxi skirt

The Best Transitional Pieces For Fall

At this point, I’m feeling a little over summer fashion; a few months into the season I feel fatigued by the constant stream of sundresses, denim shorts, and ‘small tops’.  The pastels and primaries just don’t fit with my neutral color focused color palette, and I much prefer the plentiful layering options and cool leather pieces that fall inevitably brings.  So as we near the end of summer (how is it already September 1st) I’m finding transitional pieces that will seamlessly take me away from summer blues  and into fall’s greener pastures (which I mean literally, according to pantones color of the year).

When the going gets tough turn to jeans.  I like to find a pair of denims that make me stop completely in my tracks.  A pair that are a little bit special and that will fit with the rest of my wardrobe.
